A Florida man who tried to escape from his flooded house by jumping from the garage floor has died from his injuries, according to police.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday that 20-year-old Johnathon Pomeroy died Saturday morning in the hospital.
He was in critical condition.
Deputies said they had been called to the home on the 2100 block of West South Beach Drive in Lake Mary about 7:30 a.m. when they found Pomeroys son, 17-year old Joshua Pomeroyer, who was found unresponsive on the front lawn.
He later died at a local hospital.
Pomeroy was in the home when the house flooded, the Sheriff’s office said.
The boy was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities believe he was in a home with two other boys who were also in the garage when the flood hit.
The Sheriff’s department said that the boys were playing when the flooding hit.
Pomerooy is from Lake Mary and had been a resident at the home for about six months, the Orange County coroner’s office confirmed.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
